Akpınar: Parliament Must Solve Problems, Not Threaten Universities
DP Secretary-General Serhat Akpınar claimed that several university rectors who attended the UBP Vision and Projects Workshop had been threatened, saying Parliament should focus on finding solutions rather than intimidating academic institutions.
Democrat Party (DP) Secretary-General and MP Serhat Akpınar has condemned what he described as threats directed at university rectors who attended the National Unity Party's (UBP) Vision and Projects Workshop.
Akpınar said his party had received information from several rectors who participated in the event, describing the reports as a source of serious concern.
"Parliament is not a place to threaten universities; it is a place to produce solutions," he said.
He stressed that universities are not an extension of political institutions but centres of academic freedom, scientific research and the development of the country's future.
"Universities are institutions that build the future of the state, produce knowledge and represent free thought. Any language of intimidation directed at these institutions is, in reality, pressure directed at the country's future," Akpınar said.
