Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides has announced that the United Nations has appointed an academic constitutional expert to support preparations for the next phase of the Cyprus peace process.

According to Haravgi, Christodoulides said the Cyprus issue has entered an intensive preparatory phase aimed at creating the conditions for a successful expanded conference.

He said technical preparations are being carried out in cooperation with the UN and will continue throughout August.

Christodoulides stressed that the objective is not merely to convene another conference but to ensure it produces tangible results, including the announcement that negotiations have resumed from where they left off.

As part of those preparations, he said the UN had appointed an academic constitutional expert who had also participated in the previous round of negotiations.

Christodoulides also described as "highly significant" UN Secretary-General António Guterres' references to convergences reached during earlier negotiations.

He argued that both Guterres' public statements and discussions held during bilateral and expanded meetings had clarified the objective of the process while dispelling what he described as uncertainty surrounding two-state proposals and other settlement models outside the agreed framework.

According to the report, Christodoulides is expected to brief the National Council today on recent diplomatic contacts, the ongoing preparatory work and the next steps in the Cyprus process.
