Güler: Military Readiness Updated to Safeguard TRNC Security

Güler made the remarks in a written response to a parliamentary question submitted by main opposition CHP Gaziantep MP Hasan Öztürkmen regarding NATO's evolving security architecture, growing cooperation between the United States, Israel, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration in the Eastern Mediterranean, and whether Israel's activities in Syria pose a threat to Turkey's national security.

In his response, Güler noted that following the Cold War, NATO shifted its focus toward out-of-area operations, crisis management and the rules-based international order.

He also said the United States' strategic pivot to the Asia-Pacific under its 2025 National Security Strategy and the reduction of its conventional forces in Europe have increased the responsibilities of European allies and Canada.

"Within the principle of regional ownership, Turkey, together with our NATO allies Bulgaria and Romania, is taking all necessary measures to maintain security and stability in the Black Sea while continuing to support a just, lasting and honourable peace in Ukraine through sincere dialogue with all parties," Güler said.

The defence minister stressed that Turkey is closely analysing developments on the island and in the wider region, including Israel's activities in the Greek Cypriot administration, as well as their potential implications.

He said all necessary military and political measures continue to be taken against any potential threat.

"In this context, while exercising the utmost care to preserve the sensitive balance on the island, our military readiness is being meticulously updated to ensure the security of both Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus," Güler said.

He added that Turkey continues to coordinate closely with the Syrian administration in line with its commitment to preserving Syria's territorial integrity and regional stability.

Güler also said Israel's actions in southern Syria, which he described as contrary to the 1974 Agreement and aimed at escalating tensions, are being closely monitored, adding that all necessary measures concerning Turkey's security are being taken in a timely and comprehensive manner.
