Greek Media Claim Guterres’ Confidence-Building Measures Include Direct Flights and Trade

According to reports carried by the Greek Cypriot press, the Greek Foreign Ministry's positive reaction to Guterres' post-visit statement drew accusations of "submission" and "concessions" from sections of the Greek media.

Weekly newspaper Simerini, citing Estianews.gr, published the criticism under the headline: "Gerapetritis Submissively Says Yes to Ending the Isolation of the Occupied Territories."

The report claimed that Guterres had effectively embraced all Turkish proposals except for a two-state solution, arguing that Greece's Foreign Ministry should have objected rather than expressing satisfaction with the Secretary-General's statement.

It further alleged that the confidence-building measures referred to by Guterres—and encouraged by Greece—actually conceal proposals to reopen Ercan Airport to international flights and allow direct trade through ports in the TRNC.
