Traffic Fines Updated: Highest Penalty Set at TL141,786

Traffic fines have been revised following the publication of the new minimum wage in the Official Gazette, with the highest penalty set at TL141,786 for operating a vehicle without a T operating permit.

Under the updated schedule, fines have increased for a wide range of traffic offences, including driving without a licence, drink-driving, using a mobile phone while driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

The highest fine of TL141,786 will apply to drivers operating a vehicle without the required T operating permit.

Driving without a licence, refusing a breathalyser test, using a mobile phone while driving and operating a vehicle without the owner's permission will now each carry a TL70,893 fine.

Under the revised penalties, drivers with a blood alcohol level between 50 and 100 milligrams will be fined TL35,446, while those exceeding 100 milligrams will face a TL70,893 fine.

Other updated penalties include:

  • Exceeding the speed limit by 20–40 km/h: TL7,089
  • Exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h: TL17,723
  • Running a red light: TL14,178
  • Failing to wear a seat belt: TL14,178
  • Driving without a valid vehicle licence: TL7,089
  • Dangerous driving: TL14,178
  • Driving under the influence of medication: TL35,446
  • Failing to give way to emergency vehicles using sirens: TL10,633
  • Violating vehicle registration plate regulations: TL7,089
  • Driving without a valid vehicle inspection: TL7,089
  • Failing to carry a driving licence: TL3,544
  • Driving a vehicle with a defective or excessively noisy exhaust: TL10,633

The revised penalties are intended to improve compliance with traffic regulations and strengthen road safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.
