Leaders to Meet on Aug. 26 Following Erhürman's Call for Regular Talks
The date for the next meeting between the two leaders has been set following United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres' call for uninterrupted preparatory work on the Cyprus issue.
President Tufan Erhürman's proposal for regular meetings between the two leaders has been followed by an agreement to meet on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 4:00 p.m. in the UN buffer zone.
Before departing the island, Guterres stressed the importance of maintaining continuous preparations for a successful expanded 5+1 meeting.
During the Secretary-General's visit, Erhürman proposed that the leaders meet at least once a week to maintain dialogue and advance the preparatory process.
The Aug. 26 meeting is seen as a response to Erhürman's call for regular leader-level contacts and is expected to provide an opportunity to discuss all issues on the agenda, including confidence-building measures.
