Outdoor Work Banned Between Noon and 4 p.m. Amid Extreme Heat
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has banned outdoor work and activities under direct sunlight between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Aug. 5 to Aug. 15, 2026, citing extreme temperatures and the need to protect workers' health.
The ministry said the decision was taken in line with forecasts issued by the Meteorological Department and is aimed at safeguarding employees from heat-related risks, including heatstroke and severe dehydration.
The ban was introduced under the authority granted by Article 36 of the Labour Law No. 22/1992 and will apply daily throughout the specified period.
The ministry also noted that employers in the agriculture and construction sectors operating outside residential areas may bring forward working hours to allow activities to continue safely during cooler parts of the day.
Under the revised working arrangements, employers will also be permitted to determine delivery schedules for aggregates, ready-mix concrete, other construction materials and heavy machinery at construction sites.
The ministry urged employers and workers to comply fully with the measures, stressing that proper planning and the implementation of occupational health and safety precautions are essential to protecting employees during the period of extreme heat.
