Üstel: We Will Hold Both Elections at the Same Time

During visits to villages in the Kyrenia area, Üstel outlined the government’s investments and projects, saying political stability would allow ongoing initiatives and public services to continue without interruption.

Üstel said many long-delayed projects had been completed thanks to political stability.

“We completed unfinished projects and implemented new projects our country needed,” he said.

Investments for Youth to Continue

Üstel said the government had increased investments targeting young people, particularly in sports, despite the restrictions and isolation faced by Turkish Cypriots.

He said support for youth and investment in sports would continue to increase, adding that efforts would continue to help Turkish Cypriot youth overcome barriers and achieve stronger representation internationally.

Addressing inflation, Üstel said measures would continue to protect workers, retirees, self-employed people and private-sector employees from economic hardship.

He said the government would continue taking steps to protect people’s purchasing power amid difficult economic conditions.

Üstel recalled that the date for the local elections had been approved by the Republic’s Assembly and said the date for the general elections would be submitted to Parliament for approval in the coming days.

He said the decision to hold both elections simultaneously had been unanimously approved by UBP’s authorised bodies, with the aim of preserving political stability and ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of public services and investments.

“We will ensure political stability in our country by holding both elections at the same time. This way, our country will not enter another election atmosphere for the next four years,” Üstel said.

He added that holding the two elections simultaneously would also reduce the financial burden on the country, allowing voters to go to the polls only once.

“The aim of all these efforts is to preserve political stability, allocate our resources to services rather than elections, and prepare a stronger future for the Turkish Cypriot people,” Üstel said.

“We Put Our Heart, Courage and Will Into It”

Üstel also highlighted investments in the Kyrenia area, noting that the Kyrenia-Lapta road, which had been a longstanding problem, had finally been completed.

He recalled that the project had been put out to tender in 2016 but had remained unfinished for years due to political instability.

“We put our heart, courage and will into it, and today we have completed the Lapta road,” Üstel said, stressing that the major transport project had been carried out together with Turkey.

Üstel also cited the Lapta Health Centre and several road projects in the area, particularly in Karşıyaka, as important investments.

He said work addressing residents’ needs would continue following the completion of these projects.
