Weekly Traffic Report: 1 Dead, 27 Injured in 71 Crashes

Of the 71 accidents recorded during the period, one resulted in a fatality, 18 in injuries and 52 in property damage. One person died in the fatal accident, while 27 people were injured in the accidents involving injuries. The total damage caused by the accidents was estimated at TL 4,184,300.

The causes of the accidents were listed as speeding in 20 cases, careless driving in 12, failing to stop at intersections in 16, following too closely in 12, and other factors in 11 cases.

Nicosia recorded the highest number of accidents with 22, followed by Famagusta with 20, Kyrenia with 16, İskele with nine and Güzelyurt with four.

3,001 Drivers Reported

During traffic inspections conducted across the country between August 3 and 9, police checked a total of 18,567 drivers. Legal proceedings were initiated against 3,001 drivers found to have committed traffic offences.

The offences detected included 987 cases of speeding, 19 cases of dangerous driving, 33 cases of careless driving, 284 cases of driving without a road licence, 20 cases of driving without a licence, 152 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol, 17 cases of using a mobile phone while driving, 64 cases of driving without wearing a seat belt, 143 violations of traffic signs and signals, six violations of traffic lights, 91 cases of driving an uninspected vehicle, and 78 cases involving uninsured vehicles or vehicles without valid insurance coverage.

Police also detected 10 cases involving vehicles operating without a “T” passenger transport permit, five cases involving vehicles operating without a “B” special goods transport permit, 24 cases involving obstructive window tinting, six cases of riding a motorcycle without wearing a protective helmet, and 22 violations involving lighting rules or insufficient vehicle lighting.

A further 1,040 other traffic offences were recorded.

As a result of the traffic inspections, 292 vehicles were taken off the road and 16 drivers were arrested.
