Arapköy Water Line Damage to Leave Some Areas Without Water for 7 Days
Damage to the Arapköy Reservoir Transmission Line during construction works on the Kyrenia–Değirmenlik Mountain Road is expected to take approximately seven days to repair, leaving parts of Arapköy, Beşparmak and Çatalköy, as well as some military and tourist facilities, without water from the line during this period.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, a pipe on the Arapköy Reservoir Transmission Line and a fibre-optic communications line were damaged during uncontrolled excavation carried out by the contractor working on the Kyrenia–Değirmenlik Mountain Road as part of the TRNC Highway Master Plan.
The ministry said the necessary materials would first be procured and repair works would then be carried out, with the line expected to be repaired and brought back into operation within seven days.
The transmission line, which was commissioned as part of the Turkey–TRNC Water Supply Project, supplies cooling water to the Teknecik Power Plant, as well as water to military facilities in the area, parts of Arapköy, Beşparmak and Çatalköy, and the Cratos, Acapulco and Elexus tourist facilities.
Water cannot be supplied through the transmission line to the affected areas and facilities during the repair period. Work will be carried out to provide water from local drinking and utility water sources.
The ministry urged residents to use water carefully and sparingly until the line is restored. It also said updates would be provided to residents and relevant municipalities through press statements and official communication channels.
