Fire Department Reminds Public of Fire Prevention Measures

The department also advised that areas where angle grinders, welding equipment or oxygen welding are being used should be cleared of flammable materials and dry grass. Fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment should also be kept at the work site.

The public was advised to report dangerous situations involving transformer stations, electricity poles, electrical wires that could come into contact with one another, and tree branches that could fall onto power lines to the 188 Electricity Fault Hotline.

It was also recommended that tree branches touching power lines be pruned, dry grass beneath power lines be cleared, and firefighting equipment be kept at locations where pruning work is being carried out.

The Fire Department warned that plugging multiple high-power electrical appliances, such as irons and toasters or hair dryers, into power strips increases the risk of fire. High-power appliances should be plugged directly into wall sockets, while damaged extension cords should not be used.

The department also noted that leaving high-power electrical appliances unattended while operating could cause short circuits and fires.

Regular maintenance of motor vehicles was recommended to help prevent fires caused by fuel leaks, electrical short circuits and exhaust systems.

The department also advised that cooker hood filters should be cleaned at least once every two months to reduce the risk of fires caused by accumulated grease.

It stressed the importance of keeping fire extinguishers in motor vehicles, workplaces and homes and knowing how to use them.

The public was also urged to report any signs of smoke or fire as quickly as possible by calling the 199 Fire Emergency Hotline, 177 Forest Fire Hotline or 155 Police Emergency Hotline.
