İncirli said the petition was backed by the signatures of nine MPs, adding that independent MPs had also signed it.

She said crime had become a threat not only to individuals but also to people’s social and economic lives and businesses.

Pointing to the growing prevalence of crime, İncirli said the situation had become a serious security concern for society.

She stressed that responding only after crimes had been committed was not enough, and said institutions needed to be strengthened and preventive measures implemented before crimes occurred.

“Crime has become much more diverse. The variety and scope of crime have expanded considerably. We know that people’s social and economic lives, as well as businesses, are being threatened. These are becoming increasingly widespread in the country,” İncirli said.

She said institutions needed to be further strengthened and preventive measures taken before crimes occurred, adding that creating a safe country was only possible through such an approach.

İncirli said the issue should be on the agenda of Parliament as well as the public, stressing that CTP’s main aim was to reshape institutions so that they would prevent crimes from occurring rather than intervene only after crimes had been committed.

“This issue should be on the agenda of Parliament just as it is on the public’s agenda. Our aim is to shape institutions in a way that prevents crimes before they occur,” she said.
