Dinçyürek: Conditions of Tan and Supermarket Stabbing Victim Remain Critical
Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek said the conditions of 47-year-old Ahmet Tan, who was seriously injured in an assault in Ayia Napa, and the woman stabbed at Metropol Supermarket in Nicosia remain critical.
Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s “Sabah Postası” programme hosted by Gökhan Altıner, Dinçyürek provided an update on the health conditions of the two victims.
Dinçyürek said Tan, who was seriously injured in Ayia Napa, remained in critical condition, adding that the recovery they had been expecting had not yet taken place.
He said they had received the latest information on Tan’s condition one or two days earlier.
“He is not at the stage of recovery and improvement we want. We have requested a detailed report, and they will send it,” Dinçyürek said.
What Happened?
The incident took place at around 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, in an area of Ayia Napa known for its nightlife venues.
According to reports, 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot Ahmet Tan was seriously injured in a fight shortly after leaving a friend with whom he had been having dinner.
Police arrived at the scene at around 6 a.m., and Tan was initially taken to Famagusta General Hospital. Medical examinations revealed that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage and a skull fracture. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital and admitted to intensive care.
As part of the investigation, three 18-year-old tourists holding Swedish passports and of Chilean, Albanian and Iraqi origin were arrested. A court initially ordered that they be remanded in custody for eight days. The number of people detained in connection with the incident later rose to four following the arrest of a fourth suspect.
Condition of Metropol Stabbing Victim Also Critical
Dinçyürek said the condition of the woman who was stabbed at Metropol Supermarket in Nicosia on August 3 also remained critical.
He said the woman was intubated in intensive care and that she had experienced intermittent deterioration in her condition. Specialist doctors were continuing to intervene and provide treatment, he added.
What Happened?
The incident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. on August 3 at Metropol Supermarket in Nicosia, where a man allegedly stabbed a 26-year-old woman in an attempted murder.
The suspect also injured himself following the attack. According to the Police Press Officer, the seriously injured woman and the attacker were taken by ambulance to Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.
