Üstel made the remarks at an information meeting on the Land Registry and Cadastre Information System (TAKBİS), which is being implemented as part of efforts to digitise the TRNC’s land registry and cadastral infrastructure.

Üstel said the failure to establish stable governments for many years had resulted in numerous projects being left unfinished, reforms remaining incomplete and necessary infrastructure investments not being implemented. He said his government had worked to fulfil the commitments it made to the public from the day it took office.

“Stable Governments Could Not Be Formed For A Long Time”

Recalling that governments in previous periods had often been short-lived, Üstel said frequent changes of government had negatively affected the continuity of projects.

“When we formed the government, we made a promise to our people. Stable governments could not be formed in our country for a long time. Governments were always short-lived. As a result, our projects were left unfinished across the board. Reforms could not be completed, and infrastructure shortcomings that our people needed remained unresolved for one reason or another,” Üstel said.

“Most Projects Date Back To 2009”

Üstel noted that the launch dates of many projects went back to 2009, recalling that the National Unity Party (UBP) was in single-party government at the time.

He said numerous changes of government had taken place between 2009 and the formation of his government, preventing many projects from being completed.

Üstel said his government had focused on completing projects inherited from previous administrations.

“Most projects date back to 2009, when the National Unity Party was in single-party government. We are the eighth government since then. Unfortunately, many projects remained unfinished during this period. Under our government, we completed the unfinished projects one by one,” he said.

“We Turned To Reforms In Priority Areas”

Üstel said that after completing projects inherited from previous governments, they had turned to reforms in areas they had identified as problematic and considered priorities.

He said the government had not limited itself to completing unfinished projects, but had also focused on reforms aimed at addressing infrastructure shortcomings and making public services more effective.

Üstel said the government would continue to complete projects and implement reforms in priority areas, benefiting from the stability it had achieved.
