Çeler challenged Üstel to appear before the public alongside him and other opposition representatives, saying, “Since he loves figures so much, I promise I will bring plenty of figures and statistics for him to explain.”

In a social media post, Çeler criticised Üstel’s statement that “security is measured by figures, not perceptions.”

“LET HIM TELL PEOPLE NOT TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY SEE OR HEAR, BUT TO BELIEVE MY FIGURES”

Criticising Üstel’s remarks on security, Çeler said the Prime Minister had chosen to respond to the opposition through talking points given to him on state television rather than face his critics directly.

“Mr Prime Minister must be tired of the criticism, because instead of facing us, he has chosen to dodge the issue by speaking from talking points handed to him on state television,” Çeler said.

He criticised Üstel for repeatedly insisting that “security is measured by figures, not perceptions.”

“Let him explain this to our people, who are overwhelmed by gangs, illegal residents and a criminal incident breaking out every single day. Let him tell them, ‘Do not believe what you see, what you hear or your own experiences; believe my figures,’” Çeler said.

“WHEN HE DOES NOT GO AMONG THE PEOPLE, HE SEES EVERYTHING AS ELECTION PROPAGANDA”

Çeler claimed that Üstel did not engage with the public and ignored criticism from the opposition, arguing that this was why the Prime Minister viewed security-related criticism as election propaganda.

“Mr Ünal may have become accustomed to a bed of roses without thorns. When he does not go among the people and turns a deaf ear to the opposition’s criticism, it is only natural that he sees everything that is said as election propaganda,” Çeler said.

“LET HIM FACE THE PUBLIC WITH THE OPPOSITION”

Calling on Üstel to engage in a face-to-face debate with opposition representatives, Çeler said the Prime Minister should appear before the public if he was confident in his position.

“If the Prime Minister is so confident in himself, let him appear before the public face to face with me and representatives of the other opposition parties,” Çeler said.

Referring to Üstel’s emphasis on figures and statistics, Çeler added: “Since he loves figures so much, I promise I will bring plenty of figures and statistics for him to explain.”
