CTP And TDP Agree Election Cooperation In 13 Municipalities
The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the Social Democratic Party (TDP) have agreed to cooperate in the mayoral elections of 13 municipalities, with the two parties aiming to strengthen a participatory, transparent, accountable and inclusive model of local government.
The party councils of the CTP and TDP decided to cooperate in the mayoral elections in Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou, Lefke, İskele, Değirmenlik-Akıncılar, Çatalköy-Esentepe, Mehmetçik-Büyükkonuk, Erenköy-Karpaz, Mesarya, Dikmen and Gönyeli-Alayköy.
In a joint statement, the two parties said the cooperation was not merely an electoral alliance for local government, but also reflected growing expectations in society for change, consensus and joint governance.
They said the cooperation also represented a continuation of the shared understanding and willingness to cooperate demonstrated during the presidential election process.
“Joint Governance Is The Basis Of Our Cooperation”
The parties said local governments were not merely administrative bodies responsible for delivering services, but among the most important areas of governance where citizens directly participate in decision-making and local democracy is put into practice.
They said the principle of “joint governance” formed the basis of their cooperation, with a shared goal of strengthening a local government culture in which mayors, municipal councils, mukhtars, civil society organisations, professional bodies and local residents actively participate in decision-making processes.
The approach aims to bring citizens from different political backgrounds and all sections of society together around common values while strengthening an inclusive and consensus-based model of governance.
Cooperation In 13 Municipalities
Under the agreement, the CTP and TDP party councils will cooperate in the mayoral elections in Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou, Lefke, İskele, Değirmenlik-Akıncılar, Çatalköy-Esentepe, Mehmetçik-Büyükkonuk, Erenköy-Karpaz, Mesarya, Dikmen and Gönyeli-Alayköy.
The parties said the cooperation was an important step towards strengthening a culture of social consensus, prioritising common understanding and promoting a willingness to work together.
They said they aimed to ensure that municipal resources were used efficiently, fairly and in the public interest, that decisions and spending were subject to oversight, that municipal councils were strengthened, and that citizens’ access to information and participation in decision-making were guaranteed.
“Services Will Be Based On Need And Equality, Not Political Affiliation”
The CTP and TDP said they would jointly promote a model of local government based on social justice, capable of addressing the different needs of cities and regions, protecting the environment and public spaces, promoting planned development and improving the quality of life of all citizens.
They said they would work towards municipalities where services were provided according to need and equality rather than political affiliation, with merit, institutional capacity and fiscal discipline serving as key principles.
“We Do Not Measure Success Simply By Winning Elections”
The parties said they did not measure success in local government merely by winning elections, but by governing together with the public, creating institutions that inspire confidence and achieving tangible improvements in citizens’ daily lives.
They said their aim was to contribute to strengthening, at the local level, a political culture that embraces all sections of society, regards differences as an asset and seeks to build a shared future together.
The CTP and TDP said they would work together in all municipalities covered by the cooperation to strengthen participatory, pluralistic, transparent and accountable local government and advance a municipal governance culture in which citizens have a meaningful voice in decision-making.
