In a statement, the ministry said it was closely monitoring reports in the international media alleging that sperm and/or egg donors different from those selected by patients or disclosed to them may have been used in treatments carried out at some IVF centres in the country.

The ministry said a comprehensive investigation had been launched following the allegations and that the examination was ongoing.

It called on anyone who had undergone treatment involving sperm or egg donation at an IVF centre in the north of Cyprus and who had concerns or suspicions regarding the donor information used during their treatment to contact the ministry.

The statement said patients could come forward if there was an official contract or record stating that a specific sperm donor would be used, but they believed sperm from a different donor had been used during their treatment.

Similarly, those who had an official contract or record specifying a particular egg donor but believed that an egg from a different donor had been used during treatment were also invited to contact the ministry.

Turkish Cypriot and foreign nationals can submit any information and documentation they have regarding such cases to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry stressed that applications would be handled confidentially and in line with personal data protection principles in order to contribute to the ongoing investigation and assessment processes.

It also said ensuring the confidentiality and security of patient information and medical records, as well as ensuring that IVF procedures are carried out in accordance with the law, were among its top priorities.

The ministry said it was important for anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities so that the scope of the allegations could be properly established and any additional cases of potential harm could be identified.

The Ministry of Health reiterated its call for anyone who has undergone IVF treatment in the north of Cyprus and has any concerns or suspicions regarding the sperm or egg donor used in their treatment to come forward.

Applications can be submitted via arsiv.saglik@gov.ct.tr.
