Erhürman: We Will Remain Patient, Calm and Determined
President Tufan Erhürman said they had anticipated provocations following the Turkish Cypriot community’s increasingly visible commitment to a settlement, stressing that they would remain “patient, calm and determined.”
In a statement on social media, Erhürman said, “We knew what would happen once the Turkish Cypriot people’s commitment to a settlement became visible.”
He recalled that they had previously said they would remain patient, calm and determined even before any such developments occurred.
“We knew that once the comfort zone disappeared, all kinds of provocations would emerge. Attempts would be made to push our buttons,” Erhürman said.
He said efforts had been launched to cancel festivals, while campaigns were being organised along the lines of “I stopped Turkish Cypriot young people from meeting the world”, adding that intensive efforts were being made to prevent the international community and diplomats from seeing, knowing and listening to Turkish Cypriots.
“We Will Not Be Provoked”
Erhürman said he would simply repeat what he had stated on previous occasions.
“Let no one wear themselves out for nothing. We will not be provoked, we will not get angry, we will not give in to our emotions, we will not lose our composure, and our patience will not run out,” he said.
“The things that need to be seen are being seen one by one. Those who intend to see are seeing everything,” Erhürman added, stressing that they remained completely calm.
“Our initiatives, reporting and contacts are continuing intensively. Together with our people, and in line with our people’s determination for a settlement and to engage with the world, we are continuing our path with patience, composure, seriousness and determination,” he said.
