Christodoulides: Preparatory Work Has Begun on the Basis Set by UN SG
Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides said preparatory work has begun on the basis outlined by the UN Secretary-General, describing his meeting with President Tufan Erhürman as a positive one.
Speaking to reporters upon his return to the Presidential Palace, Christodoulides said most of the nearly three-hour meeting with Erhürman involved direct discussions between the two leaders.
“I have to say it was a good meeting, with most of it involving just me and the Turkish Cypriot leader. That is why it lasted almost three hours. Preparatory work has begun on the basis outlined in the UN Secretary-General’s statement,” Christodoulides said.
According to Riknews, Christodoulides also said UN Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin was expected to visit the island in early September.
He added that the UN’s preparatory work on the existing convergences was already at an advanced stage.
