Üstel: Port Officials Who Cleared Ship for Departure Suspended
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said port officials who authorised the vessel involved in the maritime disaster off Kyrenia to set sail have been suspended and placed under investigation.
He said the ship’s captain and eight other people, including a company official, had been detained and brought before a court, with judicial proceedings continuing.
Port Officials Suspended
As part of the administrative investigation, Üstel said the relevant port officials who had authorised the vessel to depart had been removed from their duties.
New officials have been appointed to replace those under investigation, he added, stressing that every aspect of the disaster was being examined.
“Anyone found to have been negligent, at fault or responsible for this disaster will be identified,” Üstel said.
He added that whoever was found responsible following the investigation would be held accountable before justice.
