Ataoğlu: Airfares Have Fallen Following Consultations
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said airfares, which had risen following the suspension of ferry services, had fallen after consultations. He added that measures to prevent profiteering would be brought before the Council of Ministers.
Ataoğlu said consultations had resulted in a decline in air ticket prices.
Speaking live on the Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (BRTK), Ataoğlu said the issue had been discussed with the President and officials from Turkey, with efforts made to prevent profiteering. He said prices subsequently fell.
Ataoğlu described the increase in airfares following the suspension of ferry services after the accident as “unacceptable”, saying, “We would have expected them to offer discounts rather than increase prices.”
He said measures against those engaging in profiteering would be brought before the Council of Ministers and that the necessary steps would be taken to prevent a similar situation from recurring.
Calling on airlines to act responsibly, Ataoğlu urged them to “stop profiteering and put their hands under the stone.”
