Erhürman: Our Entire Focus Is on Reaching the Wreck Deep Underwater
President Tufan Erhürman briefed families waiting at the port following a crisis coordination meeting, saying the entire focus was on reaching the wreck and recovering everything that could be retrieved.
Erhürman said operations were being conducted at a depth of 514 metres, with a robotic system being used in a highly precise and slow-moving effort to reach the wreck.
He also announced that a second vessel would be in the area from tomorrow to provide additional support.
Providing an update on the latest figures, Erhürman said 20 people were still missing, while eight people had died and all of the deceased had been identified.
“Our entire focus is on reaching the wreck deep underwater and bringing to the surface everything that can be recovered,” Erhürman said, adding that judicial, administrative and technical investigations were also continuing.
He said families would be briefed at regular intervals, stressing that the operation would proceed slowly but would not be abandoned.
During the briefing, families called for Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı to come to the scene and speak to them.
“Let the Transport Minister come. Nothing else,” the families said, demanding that Arıklı provide them with an explanation.
