Üstel: Search and Rescue Efforts Continue Around the Clock at 550 Metres
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with survivors and families affected by the ferry disaster off Kyrenia and offered his condolences and best wishes. Following the meeting, Üstel provided an update on the ongoing search and rescue operation.
“Our grief is shared by all of us,” Üstel said, noting that the first search and rescue vessel sent to the area from Turkey had detected the site at a depth of 550 metres and that efforts to obtain images of the identified area were continuing.
Üstel said the TCG Alemdar had subsequently arrived in the area and joined the operation.
“TCG Alemdar has also arrived. It has more advanced technology than TCG Işın. The vessel has been reached. Imaging and search operations are continuing on a 24-hour basis,” he said.
Emphasising the extreme difficulty of conducting imaging and search and rescue operations at a depth of 550 metres, Üstel said, “Even under these very difficult conditions, our teams are working there with great dedication and sacrifice.”
Üstel said the operation was expected to reach a certain stage towards the evening, adding that journalists and grieving families would be briefed again following the latest developments.
“Towards the evening, we will brief our journalists and grieving families and share the most accurate and clear information,” he said.
