Üstel: Any Negligence or Fault Will Be Uncovered, Whoever Is Responsible
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said technical investigations would be conducted in cooperation with relevant institutions in Turkey to shed full light on the maritime disaster off Kyrenia, with a preliminary report expected to be prepared as soon as possible.
Üstel met at the Prime Ministry with Durali İşler, Head of the Maritime Accident Investigation Department at the Transportation Safety Investigation Centre of Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and his accompanying delegation.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Ahmet Varol, First Deputy Director-General of Police Gökhan Karagil and their respective teams were also present at the meeting.
The ongoing investigation into the maritime disaster off Kyrenia and the technical examinations to be carried out were discussed in detail.
As part of the work being conducted under Üstel’s instructions, the Transportation Safety Investigation Centre will carry out the necessary technical examinations to determine the causes of the incident. A preliminary report will then be prepared as soon as possible based on the findings.
Üstel stressed that all state institutions were determined to pursue the matter, saying:
“From the very first day, we have demonstrated a clear and unequivocal determination. Everything necessary will be done to shed full light on this tragic incident.
“We are working in full cooperation and coordination with the relevant institutions of Turkey. Technical examinations will be carried out, all findings will be assessed meticulously, and a preliminary report will be prepared as soon as possible.
“We will not allow any detail to be overlooked or any negligence to be covered up. If there is any negligence, fault or responsibility, whoever it stems from, it will be uncovered.
“All state resources have been mobilised to ensure that the investigation and technical examination processes are conducted properly and comprehensively.
“Our responsibility towards those we have lost and their grieving families is immense. I will continue to personally follow the process to ensure that the truth is fully uncovered and those responsible are identified.”
