Filo Jet Tragedy: Negligence Claims Emerge
The investigation into the Filo Jet ferry disaster has raised serious allegations of negligence and safety failures, as nine suspects remain in custody over the deaths of passengers.
According to evidence presented to the court, the vessel had previously taken on water and experienced problems involving its engine and steering system before the accident. Investigators are also examining claims that the vessel may have suffered damage and that it was operating without valid Radio Safety and Load Line certificates.
Police further allege that the captain failed to reduce speed after water began entering the vessel, potentially worsening the situation. Questions have also been raised over the qualifications and licences of the captain and crew, as well as the vessel’s maintenance and repair history.
The court extended the detention of the nine suspects by eight days as authorities continue collecting statements and examining technical evidence.
