Üstel: Search Efforts Continue as TCG IŞIN Temporarily Leaves Area for Refuelling
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said search efforts to locate those missing following the maritime disaster off Kyrenia were continuing around the clock, adding that TCG ALEMDAR remained in the area while TCG IŞIN had temporarily left the operational zone for refuelling and would return once replenishment was completed.
Üstel said TCG ALEMDAR, operated by the Turkish Naval Forces, was continuing search operations in the area.
TCG IŞIN, which is also involved in the operation, had temporarily left the area to refuel and would resume its activities after completing the process, he said.
Both vessels have the technical capabilities required to conduct search operations in deep waters, Üstel added.
He said that, to ensure the operation continued without interruption, the vessels would undergo rotation when refuelling, maintenance or other technical requirements arose, allowing search efforts to continue continuously.
Üstel also said the government was today reviewing reports prepared in Istanbul on possible cooperation with private companies with advanced deep-sea search and rescue capabilities, in an effort to make the operation more effective.
“This is not about suspending the search efforts. On the contrary, it is about strengthening the existing capabilities and increasing the effectiveness of the operation,” Üstel said.
He added that the government was determined to mobilise all necessary resources to locate those still missing.
“Our search operations are continuing uninterrupted, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Üstel said.
