Day 10 of Kyrenia Ferry Disaster: 14 People Still Missing
Search and rescue operations to locate passengers missing from the Filo Jet, which capsized while sailing between Kyrenia and Taşucu, are continuing around the clock on the 10th day of the disaster. The families of those still missing continue their anxious wait under tents set up at the entrance to Kyrenia Tourism Port.
The death toll rose to 14 after the body of another victim was recovered two days ago. Search efforts are continuing without interruption to locate the 14 people still missing.
Search efforts continue day and night
Search and rescue operations are being conducted around the clock with the participation of the Turkish Naval Forces vessels TCG Işın and TCG Alemdar. Technical teams and underwater systems are working around the wreck, located at a depth of approximately 554 metres.
Robotic systems are scanning the area around the wreck and points where access to the vessel may be possible. Teams are searching both for the missing passengers and the vessel’s black box, which is considered important to determining the cause of the disaster.
Maritime and aerial assets are also supporting the underwater operation. A total of nine vessels and 11 aircraft are taking part in search and rescue efforts in the area.
