Christodoulides and Erhürman held talks on the Cyprus issue, with the meeting focusing on the substance and methodology of negotiations, as well as confidence-building measures.

Speaking after the meeting, Christodoulides said the next meeting would be held next Wednesday or Friday, following a meeting between the negotiators.

Describing the meeting as brief but substantive, Christodoulides said the two sides continued exchanging views on three areas: substance, methodology and confidence-building measures.

He said progress and a common understanding had been reached on some issues, while differences and differing approaches remained on others.

Christodoulides said confidence-building measures were not discussed in depth, with the meeting focusing mainly on the substance and methodology of the negotiations.

He said the discussions had clarified how the negotiations could proceed and what conditions would be needed for their resumption.

“My personal view, because I cannot speak on behalf of anyone else, is that based on the information available, we are ready. I believe we are ready to resume negotiations from where they left off at Crans-Montana,” he said.
