Denktaş: Time to End ‘Organised Irresponsibility’

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s “Gündem” programme hosted by Ulaş Barış, Denktaş said the state had failed in the evacuation efforts following the disaster.

“Organised irresponsibility has spread across the country. The time has come to get rid of those responsible for this organised irresponsibility,” Denktaş said.

Denktaş said the disaster had exposed numerous failures, particularly the state’s inability to carry out an effective evacuation at the scene. He said civilian involvement had saved lives, describing it as “inconceivable” that three coastguard boats had failed to rescue a single person.

He said there had been “organised irresponsibility” at every stage, from the purchase and repair of the vessel to its inspection and permission to leave the port.

Denktaş also linked corruption and poverty in the country to the same failures, saying it was time to remove the government responsible.

“The way to do this is through the ballot box,” he said, urging voters to exercise their own will in the upcoming election rather than accepting a will imposed on them.

“We need to get rid of this mismanagement. The way to do that is to stand up for our own will—not a will dictated to us. Everyone should therefore make their will known at the ballot box,” Denktaş said.

TAM Parti Will Be a Major Force in the Election”

Denktaş said TAM Parti had emerged as a result of the systemic problems facing the country and would become a major force in the upcoming election.

“Our people will see the difference our presence in Parliament can make. We will be the most important actor in this election,” he said.

Denktaş said the party’s main task would be to eliminate the irresponsibility and indifference he described, adding that it would explain to voters how existing problems could be solved and what resources could be used.

“The Only Thing Growing With Stability Is Poverty”

Denktaş criticised those who describe themselves as leading the country’s “most stable government”.

“What they need to see is poverty growing with stability, corruption growing with stability, irregularities growing with stability and hopelessness growing with stability,” he said.

He accused those who had brought the country to its current situation of remaining focused on protecting their positions, making promises without a solid basis and distributing land in an effort to remain in power.

“The environment that is forcing our young people to leave in despair is neither liveable nor sustainable,” Denktaş said.
