Parliamentary Committee Formed to Investigate Ferry Disaster
A Parliamentary Investigation Committee established to investigate the ferry disaster off Kyrenia Port has elected its chair and deputy chair at its first meeting. National Unity Party (UBP) MP Sunat Atun was elected chair, while Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Teberrüken Uluçay was elected deputy chair.
The “Parliamentary Investigation Committee on the Ferry Disaster That Occurred off Kyrenia Port on August 30, 2026” was established by a decision of the General Assembly of the Republican Assembly during its third extraordinary session on September 10, 2026.
The committee convened following the Extraordinary General Assembly meeting at the call of Republican Assembly Speaker Ziya Öztürkler. UBP MP Sunat Atun was unanimously elected chair, while CTP MP Teberrüken Uluçay was unanimously elected deputy chair.
The other members of the committee are UBP MPs Resmiye Eroğlu CANALTAY and Hasan Küçük, and CTP MP Fikri Toros.
Following the election of the chair and deputy chair, committee members held an internal briefing meeting.
