North Cyprus to Hold General and Local Elections on December 6
The general parliamentary election and local elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will be held on the same day, December 6, 2026.
The General Assembly of the Republican Assembly approved a motion providing for the two elections to be held simultaneously.
The election date in the TRNC has now been finalized. Following discussions in the General Assembly, a motion calling for the general parliamentary election and local elections to be held together on December 6, 2026, was approved.
Under the decision, voters will go to the polls on December 6 to elect both the members of the Republican Assembly and representatives to serve in local administrations. The decision also completes the parliamentary process for the government’s previously announced plan to hold the general and local elections on the same date.
Two Elections on the Same Day
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel had previously said the government was determined to hold the general parliamentary election and local elections together on December 6, adding that the issue had also been discussed with the Supreme Electoral Council.
With the decision, the general parliamentary election and local elections in the TRNC will both be held on December 6, 2026.
Under TRNC electoral legislation, Republican Assembly elections are held every five years, while general elections for local government bodies are held every four years.
