Suspect Admits Killing Wife With Power Tool, Remanded for Three Days

Police told the court that the suspect admitted in a handwritten statement to killing his wife by hitting her on the head with his hands and with a rotary power tool found inside the vehicle.

According to police, S.A.T. was driving with his wife on the Güzelyurt-Nicosia main road when an argument broke out between them over allegations of infidelity. After the vehicle crashed, the suspect allegedly used a rotary-powered seat-cleaning brush kept inside the car to strike his wife on the head, causing her death. He subsequently surrendered to police officers who arrived at the scene and was arrested before being brought before the court.

Assistant Police Inspector Ömer Faruk Şengil presented evidence in court concerning the incident.

Şengil said the suspect had been travelling from Güzelyurt towards Nicosia in his AA 642 U-registered vehicle with his wife on September 12, 2026, at around 6pm. Following an argument over alleged infidelity, the vehicle went out of control on the Güzelyurt-Nicosia dual carriageway between kilometres 25 and 26.

The vehicle struck the concrete wall of a business called Tektaş Parke with its front-left tyre and left side mirror before continuing approximately 110 metres into a field on the northern side of the road, where it came to a stop.

Şengil told the court that the suspect subsequently struck Rukiye Tunçer on the head with the rotary seat-cleaning tool inside the vehicle, causing her death.

He said the suspect surrendered to police at the scene and gave a voluntary statement. The statement must still be verified and challenged as part of the investigation, he added. Police also seized the tool allegedly used in the killing as evidence for forensic examination.

Şengil requested three days of police custody to allow the investigation to proceed safely.

Judge Nuray Nejdet, having considered the evidence presented, ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for three days for investigation purposes.
