Turkish Foreign Ministry Slams Greece Over “Baseless” Statements

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has rejected what it called “baseless statements” by Greek authorities regarding the period when Greece attempted to occupy and invade Anatolia, calling on Greek officials to show “seriousness” and “common sense.”

In a written statement issued today, the ministry responded to remarks made by Greek authorities.

The statement said:

“We reject the baseless statements by Greek authorities regarding the period when Greece sought to occupy and invade Anatolia, and call on Greek officials to show seriousness and common sense.

“We would also like to remind Greece that, during this period, it carried out massacres and destruction against civilians in Anatolia and accepted responsibility for these crimes and the payment of compensation under Article 59 of the Treaty of Lausanne.”
