Ekinci: We Will Introduce Universal Health Insurance

Ekinci said access to healthcare should not depend on a citizen’s financial means, advocating an approach based on “quality healthcare regardless of the thickness of your wallet.”

Speaking on Güne Dair, hosted by Nazar Erişkin, Ekinci addressed a range of issues, including universal health insurance.

“I Will Not Leave, I Will Keep Fighting Until We Change Things”

Ekinci also addressed the issue of young people being forced to leave the country, saying that he himself had opportunities to work in another European country but had chosen to remain and fight to change the country instead of leaving.

Ekinci delivered the following message to young people:

“I will insist on staying. I will insist on fighting until we change things.”

TDP Secretary-General Ekinci said that following the December 6 elections, the party would seek to establish a governing approach that delivers concrete results in a range of areas, from protecting women’s right to life and improving healthcare to public administration, trust and accountability.

“We Will Introduce Universal Health Insurance”

Ekinci said one of TDP’s most concrete goals after the December 6 elections would be to introduce universal health insurance.

Emphasizing that access to healthcare should not vary according to a person’s financial situation, Ekinci said quality healthcare was a right for everyone.

He said there was no need for a years-long “system reset” to transform the healthcare system, arguing that what was needed was political will.

Ekinci said equal and accessible healthcare was at the heart of TDP’s health policy, adding that universal health insurance would guarantee citizens access to healthcare regardless of their financial means.

He summed up TDP’s goal as “quality healthcare regardless of the thickness of your wallet.”

Ekinci also said public trust in government and politics had been seriously eroded, adding that TDP aimed to rebuild a relationship of trust with society in the new period.

He said society had reached a point where people now questioned even the simplest official statements.

“We have reached the point where, if they tell us milk is white, we would start looking for something in that milk,” he said.

Ekinci said trust, transparency and accountability would form the foundation of TDP’s approach to government.

“We Will Discuss How to Make the Domestic Violence Law More Effective”

Ekinci said combating violence against women could not be limited to reacting after incidents occurred, stressing the need to reassess the legal framework for combating domestic violence.

He said they would hold a working meeting with experts in the field to discuss how the law could be made more responsive to current needs, workable in practice and capable of protecting women’s lives.

Emphasizing that the initiative would not be limited to a single meeting, Ekinci said: “We will keep fighting until we achieve concrete results.”

“We Examined All 103 Pledges One by One”

Ekinci also addressed the UBPçalışıyormu.com initiative during the programme, saying they had examined one by one the pledges made by the government over the past seven years.

He said they had reviewed a total of 103 pledges using two different methodologies and found that the National Unity Party (UBP)’s implementation rate was approximately 20 percent.

Ekinci said citizens should be able to see the gap between promises made during election periods and what was actually delivered, adding: “We do not have a single day to lose.”
