Hasipoğlu Accuses CTP of Reluctance Over Erhürman’s Mixed Voting Decision
Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu has accused the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) of being reluctant to support the legislation abolishing mixed voting, following President Tufan Erhürman’s decision to return the amendment law to Parliament.
Speaking on BRT, Hasipoğlu said Erhürman may have identified some shortcomings in the legislation and suggested that Parliament could reconsider the law.
“CTP did not make a single amendment. CTP is reluctant. It is clear that they consulted with the President,” Hasipoğlu said.
He added that they were ready to consider any proposals concerning the technical aspects of the legislation.
“If there is a technical error, it can be corrected. We can invite a judge from the Supreme Election Board (YSK) and seek an opinion,” Hasipoğlu said.
Hasipoğlu noted that the YSK chairman had also stated that the two elections could be held simultaneously if mixed voting was abolished and the number of polling stations increased.
He said there was political will to hold the parliamentary and local elections together.
“Parliament’s will prevails,” Hasipoğlu said, adding that there would be no problem with the December 6 election date once the amendment was reconsidered.
