Filo Jet Suspects Remanded for Another 7 Days

During the court hearing, notable details from the investigation were presented, including evidence that the vessel suffered a break at its bow on June 17 and that the damage was repaired in a makeshift manner by the captain and crew. Police also said workers at the shipyard in Adana, Turkey, had been included in the investigation.

Company director A.Ö., captain M.Ö., second captain M.S., chief engineer Z.Ö., second engineer M.G., and crew members S.E., K.K., V.H. and R.İ. were brought before Kyrenia District Court again today.

The nine suspects, who are being investigated on charges of “causing death through negligence and carelessness,” were ordered to remain in custody for another seven days.

Relatives of Missing and Deceased React

Relatives of passengers who died or remain missing gathered outside Kyrenia District Court in the morning and reacted to the suspects.

The families called for justice before and after the hearing.

“We are seeking justice. We will never give up on this,” “Who will answer for the deaths of my two children?”, “The captain needs to look me in the eye and speak,” and “Which lawyer will defend them?” relatives said.

After the hearing, the suspects were escorted by police into vehicles, while relatives of the missing and deceased passengers ran after the police vehicle.

“Left Front Skid Broke and Was Repaired Improperly”

Among the investigation details presented by police was an incident involving the vessel on June 17.

Police said the second captain stated in his testimony that the vessel had taken on water on June 17 and that a break had been observed at the bow.

The court was also told that investigators had obtained a photograph showing the damaged section being repaired by the captain and crew.

According to information presented during the hearing, the photograph was taken by one of the crew members and sent to the second captain. Investigators have information indicating that the repair was carried out in a makeshift manner. The second captain reportedly said he had informed authorities in Turkey about the situation.

Vessel Completed Maintenance on April 30

Information about the vessel’s maintenance and certification process was also presented in court.

The court was told that the vessel completed maintenance on April 30 and was subsequently certified by Türk Loydu on June 2.

Investigators also presented findings indicating that the vessel suffered a break at its bow on June 17.

Adana Shipyard Included in Investigation

Police told the court that the shipyard in Adana, where the vessel underwent maintenance, had also been included in the investigation.

Personnel working at the shipyard and records concerning the vessel’s maintenance process are being examined as part of the investigation.

The judge also asked police whether the crew had received the necessary training.

The police officer said the vessel’s logbook had sunk with the ship and therefore could not be accessed.

Police said the relevant records had subsequently been requested from the company, Filo Denizcilik, but had not yet been obtained due to a technical problem at the company.

The investigation is continuing, with authorities examining the vessel’s maintenance and repair process, crew training, technical records and links to the shipyard.

The court ordered the nine suspects to remain in custody for another seven days, while relatives of the missing and deceased passengers continued their calls for justice outside the courthouse.
