Speaking to reporters about the meeting held in the UN buffer zone, Erhürman said his New York programme would include meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguin.

Erhürman said the direction of the Cyprus process would become clearer once these contacts had been completed. He added that a trilateral meeting involving the parties or a 5+1 meeting was not currently on the agenda in New York.

Erhürman said Guterres would hold separate meetings with the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides.

The President said his meeting with Guterres would provide greater clarity on how the process could move forward, adding that the New York contacts would be important in determining the roadmap for the next stage of the Cyprus talks.

Recalling that the UN Secretary-General had said he remained engaged in the process and would continue efforts to move it forward, Erhürman said Guterres and Holguin could play a facilitating role on issues where no agreement had yet been reached, which could have a positive impact on the process.
