Ünal Üstel: Cyprus Turkish Airlines to Return to the Skies in 2028

Üstel said Cyprus Turkish Airlines would be re-established under a public-private partnership model and begin operating again in 2028.

Addressing the meeting, Üstel said:

“I want to give the Turkish Cypriot people some important good news. Our people have been longing for Cyprus Turkish Airlines for 16 years. We are bringing this longing to an end. Cyprus Turkish Airlines will return to the skies in 2028.

“Cyprus Turkish Airlines will be a strong and strategic investment implemented through a public-private partnership model. Following the new Ercan Airport, we are taking another historic step in air transportation.

“This step will not only bring our flag carrier back to the skies, but will also increase competition and have a significant balancing effect on airfares. It will strengthen our tourism sector, improve our transportation opportunities, make our people’s lives easier and connect our country more strongly to the world.

“We will share the establishment model, roadmap and all details of Cyprus Turkish Airlines with our people on October 12. But this will not be the only major project we announce on that date.

“We will also unveil other groundbreaking projects that will make our people’s lives easier. We will present numerous major investments that will add value to Lefke, Güzelyurt, Kyrenia, İskele, Famagusta and Nicosia.

“We will reach every part of our country. We will develop every district. We will make life easier for every person.

“We will not merely make promises. We will put forward concrete projects with clear timelines, funding and targets. We will once again fly our flag in the skies with Cyprus Turkish Airlines. May it be beneficial to our people.”

Preparations for the upcoming election process were also discussed at the UBP Party Assembly meeting.

It was decided that candidates for municipal council seats would be finalized by Friday.

The meeting also discussed steps to be taken regarding legislation abolishing the mixed voting system, which had been returned to the Republic’s Assembly by President Tufan Erhürman.

The UBP Party Assembly once again expressed its strong support for the legislation, which was discussed by the Committee on Legal, Political Affairs, Foreign Relations and Defence today and is set to be sent to the General Assembly without any amendments.
