Faiz Sucuoğlu: ‘We Are on the Verge of Key Decisions on the Future of Our Ports’

Sucuoğlu held his first meeting with the heads of departments under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to determine the ministry’s priority areas.

Undersecretary Murat Salel and Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTHK) Chairman Kadri Bürüncük also attended the meeting.

The meeting primarily focused on possible steps to restructure the Department of Ports.

‘WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF IMPORTANT DECISIONS ON OUR PORTS’

Sucuoğlu said the Council of Ministers would be briefed on the steps required to ensure that the country’s ports provide services in line with international standards.

“We have experienced the vital importance of our ports in the most painful way. That is why ports are among our top priorities. We are on the verge of making important decisions about the future of our ports,” Sucuoğlu said.

Another key issue discussed at the meeting was the work to complete the country’s fiber-optic infrastructure, Sucuoğlu said.

He added that the latest status of lighting, maintenance and repair works being carried out by the Department of Highways to improve road safety was also discussed, along with the Kyrenia-Çatalköy Road, which is among the ministry’s priority projects.

“Completing the Kyrenia-Çatalköy Road within the next three months is among our priority targets,” Sucuoğlu said.

‘WE WILL IMPLEMENT RESULTS-ORIENTED POLICIES’

Sucuoğlu said they would implement results-oriented policies on a range of issues, including modern vehicle inspection stations inherited from previous administrations, a new public transportation system and a planned Meteorological Tower at Ercan Airport.

“There are important services expected by our people in areas under the responsibility of our ministry. Our aim is to find solutions to the problems faced by our people and respond to their expectations for services,” he said.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s conference room, was also attended by Ministry Director Selcan Erkan, Private Secretary Hande Güzoğlu, Planning/Project Director Ayşe Tosunoğlu, Highways Department Director Hakan Bozkaya, Postal Department Director İlknur Ertayfur Topal, Telecommunications Department Director Ömer Kanlı, Civil Aviation Department Director Hayran Bolkan, Planning and Construction Department Director Oğuz Akçay, Traffic Department Director Ahmet Aydın and Meteorology Department Director Mediha Orun Sarp.
