Suspect Wanted in Turkey for Murder Detained in Kyrenia

A.A. was identified and detained following a request from Turkish authorities. He entered Northern Cyprus on March 12, 2024, on a 30-day visa and was found to have remained in the country illegally for approximately 922 days after his visa expired.

According to information obtained, the Republic of Turkey requested A.A.’s “immediate” extradition under the bilateral extradition agreement. The suspect, who is reportedly wanted in Turkey for several serious offences, including murder, was identified following an operation by the Crime Prevention Branch of the Kyrenia Police Directorate.

A.A. was brought before the Kyrenia District Court today as part of the extradition proceedings.

Police officer Harun Ceylan of the Kyrenia Crime Prevention Branch told the court that the suspect was arrested on September 20.

Ceylan said A.A. had entered the country on March 12, 2024, on a 30-day visa and had been residing illegally in the country for 922 days.

Police requested that the suspect be remanded in custody for three days to allow the extradition procedures to Turkey to be carried out.

Kyrenia District Court Judge Mine G. Serden ordered that A.A. remain in police custody for three days to allow the extradition procedures to be completed.
