Erdoğan to Guterres: No Cyprus Deal Without Turkish Cypriot Equality

Erdoğan made the remarks during a meeting with Guterres, where they discussed regional and global issues.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Communications, Erdoğan said Turkey had worked closely with Guterres on numerous issues concerning global peace and security as the UN chief approaches the end of his term.

Erdoğan said it had once again become clear that Israel did not want peace in Gaza, while settler violence in the West Bank and attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem had further worsened the situation. He stressed the need to preserve the basis for a two-state solution.

Erdoğan also said tensions in Iran and Ukraine needed to be reduced, adding that Turkey was working to ensure the diplomatic process remained in place. He said a process emerging from within the region could be beneficial regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

On the Black Sea, Erdoğan said Turkey expected all sides to act responsibly to ensure navigational safety, stressing that Turkey was concerned about commercial vessels being targeted in the region.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, Ambassador Mehmet Güllüoğlu and Mehdi Eker, a member of the Presidential Council for Agricultural and Food Policies, also attended the meeting.
