Day 25 of Filo Jet Disaster: Search Continues for 13 Missing People

Robotic systems are being used to scan the area around the wreck, located at a depth of approximately 554 metres, while relatives of the missing continue to wait at Kyrenia Tourism Port.

Search efforts for the 13 people still missing from the Filo Jet, which sank off Kyrenia on August 30, are continuing. The relatives of those missing are also maintaining their vigil at the port.

Operations are being carried out around the clock by the vessel Optimus Prime, which is equipped with specialised technical equipment for deep-sea search and rescue operations.

13 PEOPLE STILL MISSING

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced on September 19 that the body of another person reported missing in the maritime disaster had been recovered. Üstel said the death toll had risen to 15, while the number of missing people had fallen to 13.

NINE SUSPECTS REMANDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL SEVEN DAYS

Nine suspects detained as part of the investigation into the maritime disaster were brought before the Kyrenia District Court again on Friday, where the court ordered that they remain in custody for a further seven days.

Police told the court that more than 300 statements had been taken and that five people for whom arrest warrants had been issued were still being sought.

The voyage data recorder, commonly referred to as the ship’s black box, which is considered important in determining the cause of the accident, has not yet been recovered.
