Üstel Reacts Strongly to Christodoulides

In a statement, Üstel accused the Greek Cypriot leadership of hypocrisy and said the “realities” of the Cyprus problem were being ignored.

“If hypocrisy is being sought in Cyprus, the address is clear: the Greek Cypriot leadership and those who applaud it unconditionally,” Üstel said.

He argued that if there was “occupation” in Cyprus, it was the Greek Cypriot side’s seizure of the 1960 Republic and exclusion of Turkish Cypriots from the partnership state.

Üstel also described the embargoes and restrictions imposed on Turkish Cypriots as “inhumane isolation,” while referring to the violence, attacks and displacement suffered by Turkish Cypriots between 1963 and 1974.

“If there is peace and security in Cyprus today, it is thanks to the presence of the Turkish army on the island and the security it provides, despite the slanderous claims that it is an ‘occupying force,’” he said.

Addressing Christodoulides and his associates, Üstel said they should understand that they could not alter the realities of Cyprus regardless of the support they received.

“No matter who supports them, they will not be able to change the realities of Cyprus,” Üstel said.

He added that Turkish Cypriots would continue on their own path “with their own will and determination” with the support of Turkey and Erdoğan.

“The Turkish Cypriot people exist, they are sovereign, and they will never allow others to decide their future for them,” Üstel said.
