Parliament to Reconsider Mixed Voting Law Tomorrow
The TRNC Parliament will reconvene tomorrow to reconsider the Election and Referendum Law, which President Tufan Erhürman returned to the legislature after objecting to the removal of the mixed voting system.
According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası, the General Assembly will convene at 11 a.m. to reconsider the legislation, which was returned by Erhürman on the grounds that there was little time left before the election.
The bill will be placed on the General Assembly’s agenda after the Legal, Political Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee reapproved the legislation by a majority vote.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel had criticised Erhürman’s decision to return the bill, saying, “It is a serious inconsistency for President Tufan Erhürman to return to the Republican Assembly today the law abolishing the mixed voting system.”
CTP Chair Sıla Usar İncirli had also criticised the timing of the legislation.
