Dimitriou and Neofytou Set for 2028 Presidential Contest in DISY

According to Haravgi, Dimitriou responded to Neofytou’s candidacy announcement, with the developments marking an open contest over who will represent DISY in the 2028 presidential election.

The newspaper reported that Dimitriou issued a statement following a meeting of the party leadership yesterday, making clear references to internal party procedures and stressing that preserving the party’s unity and cohesion was a priority.

Dimitriou said democratic procedures provided for under the party statutes would be followed and that she was placing herself at the disposal of the party’s members.

She said DISY would have a candidate who would serve the interests of both its members and the party as a whole.

Dimitriou said details concerning the nomination procedures would be announced in the coming days.

Neofytou, meanwhile, criticised the DISY leadership in statements to several media outlets, referring to what he described as “empty declarations of unity.”

He also referred to the behind-the-scenes developments surrounding Dimitriou’s re-election as President of Parliament, while rejecting the suggestion that his decision to announce his candidacy had divided DISY.

Neofytou added: “The one who has been betrayed never betrays.”
