Bird Flu Alert in South Cyprus: Four People Quarantined
Authorities in South Cyprus have gone on alert after avian influenza (H5N1) was detected in a dead goose at Athalassa Park, with four people who came into contact with the bird placed under precautionary home quarantine.
According to Fileleftheros, the bird was found dead last Friday after being discovered by a member of the public. The person who found the bird, along with three officials who came into contact with it, were placed under home quarantine as a precaution.
Meanwhile, a second goose was found dead in the park yesterday, prompting an investigation into a suspected second case of avian influenza. The bird was taken to the Veterinary Services Department for the necessary examinations.
The report also said the Veterinary Services Department had advised everyone visiting the park to avoid approaching, feeding or coming into close contact with birds.
