Serman Yiğit Becomes KTAMS President
Serman Yiğit has been appointed president of the Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants Trade Union (KTAMS) following the resignation of Güven Bengihan, who became a parliamentary quota candidate for the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) in Nicosia.
According to a statement issued by KTAMS, the union’s Executive Board unanimously approved the appointment of Secretary-General Serman Yiğit to serve as president in place of Bengihan.
The statement said KTAMS is one of the country’s oldest and largest trade unions, with a 70-year history and nearly 5,000 members.
It recalled that Bengihan had served on the union’s Executive Board for nearly 20 years and as president for eight years before stepping down on September 25. At a meeting held yesterday, the Executive Board unanimously approved both Bengihan’s resignation and Yiğit’s appointment to serve as president.
“Our union will continue on its path with determination, guided by its fundamental principles and objectives and supported by its strong institutional structure,” the statement said.
KTAMS also expressed its support for Bengihan in his political efforts and wished him success.
