Two Bodies Identified After Ship Disaster, Another Body Recovered

The Prime Ministry has announced that DNA tests identified two bodies recovered over the weekend following the ship disaster off Kyrenia as those of five-year-old Mehmet Asaf Biçer and Nihat Pancar. Another body was recovered during search operations today.

In a new statement on the ongoing search operation following the ship disaster off Kyrenia, the Prime Ministry said DNA tests conducted on the two bodies recovered over the weekend had been completed.

The statement said one body was identified as belonging to five-year-old Mehmet Asaf Biçer, while the other was identified as Nihat Pancar.

Another body was recovered during search operations today, the statement said, adding that DNA testing had been launched to establish the person’s identity.

The Prime Ministry said search operations were continuing with all available state resources.

“We pray for God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our condolences to their families. We wish patience and strength to the relatives of those still missing,” the statement said.

Search efforts continue for the 10 people still missing.
