Sucuoğlu said the vessel that sank had been inspected by Türk Loyd approximately 2.5 to three months before the accident and had been deemed fit to operate. He added that they had subsequently received information that the vessel had been involved in a minor accident, but that the incident had not been reported.

“The Vessel Was Inspected by Türk Loyd 2.5–3 Months Ago”

Addressing criticism directed at Türk Loyd, Sucuoğlu said, “This vessel was inspected by Türk Loyd 2.5 to three months ago. And it received approval that it was fit to undertake this voyage at sea.”

Regarding the accident he said occurred after the inspection, Sucuoğlu said, “But this vessel — this is of course the information we have received, while the police have much more detail — was involved in a minor accident. And this was not reported.”

“If You Don’t Report the Accident…”

Emphasising that the accident had not been reported, Sucuoğlu argued that Türk Loyd could not be held responsible for the incident.

“What fault does Türk Loyd have here? You tell me. If you don’t report the minor accident, whatever it was…” he said.

Sucuoğlu said the details would emerge as a result of the ongoing police investigation.

“The Investigation Will Continue Regardless of Where It Leads”

Sucuoğlu also said the investigation into Filo Denizcilik was continuing, adding that no definitive sanction had yet been imposed on the company.

“The investigation and any penalties, sanctions and the system will continue to the very end, regardless of where this investigation leads,” Sucuoğlu said.
