Paphos to Rename Kemal Atatürk Street “Memory and Hope Street”
The Paphos Municipal Council has decided to rename Kemal Atatürk Street in Mutallo, a Turkish Cypriot neighbourhood in Paphos, as “Memory and Hope Street.” The decision was taken following a vote held on Tuesday evening.
According to a report by Sigmalive, a majority of the municipal council supported the change, while the municipal groups of DIKO and AKEL abstained and are awaiting the final decision of the Foreign Ministry.
The proposal to rename the street was submitted by DISY councillor Nina Garaklidu, who described the decision as historic.
The report also noted that the decision effectively brings to an end, at municipal council level, the debate that had emerged over the name of the street.
